AXIS Capital has named a new chief executive for its AXIS Specialty Europe SE and AXIS Re SE businesses, it was announced today.
Dublin-based Helen O’Sullivan, who was deputy global tax director at AXIS, will take on the role which will involve overseeing the company’s Irish subsidiaries and their branches. O’Sullivan will also join the board of directors of AXIS Capital’s Irish subsidiaries as an executive director.
The newly-named CEO succeeds Tim Hennessy, who was appointed chief financial officer of the international division for AXIS Insurance earlier this year and remains a director of AXIS Specialty Europe SE and AXIS Re SE.
“Helen brings extensive experience leading international initiatives in highly regulated industries such as insurance and banking,” said Matthew Fosh, chairman at AXIS Europe, in a statement. “She has been with AXIS more than 10 years, and also brings a deep understanding of our organisation and operations.”
In her former role working on tax, O’Sullivan helped the company build and execute a sophisticated finance, compliance and international tax strategy, AXIS said.
Prior to working at the firm, she held positions at Bank of Ireland and Chapman Flood Mazars Chartered Accountants. O’Sullivan is also a chair of the Insurance Working Group of the IFS 2020 (Vision for 2020 International Financial Services in Ireland) and a past president of the Irish Taxation Institute.
O’Sullivan will continue to be based in Dublin as part of her new role, and will provide support and advice on tax matters.
