With key workers still commuting amid the coronavirus lockdown introduced by the UK government back in March, AXA Insurance has announced a new partnership it hopes can help support safer driving.
The motor insurer is teaming up with tech start-up Brightmile on a smartphone telematics solution for fleets. To support services such as food deliveries, charities and gas and electricity technicians, AXA insured fleets can now access the Brightmile app for free for three months.
So, what is the app?
As with most apps, it works through a smartphone and can be managed totally remotely. It tracks journey durations, phone interactions and vehicle speeds, as well as other risk factors, and offers rewards for safer driving in an effort to encourage drivers into better behaviour. On the company side, a web portal is available for business owners and fleet managers so they can gain insights on their fleet’s trends.
“The coronavirus lockdown hasn’t removed all road dangers,” explained Doug Jenkins, motor technical risk manager at AXA Insurance. “In these trying times, drivers who are delivering essential services need to keep safe. We want to show them we value their contribution to society and we want to help them stay safe. We hope this app and the associated services will make a difference to their wellbeing.”
According to Brightmile CEO Dominic Saunders, the app is “easy to install and operate” and helps drivers to continue to observe social distancing, while fleet managers can use it as part of their remote working arrangements.
Brokers with qualifying risks are invited to reach out to their AXA Commercial account manager to access the deal.
