It’s official: Laurent Matras (pictured) is now the executive managing director of AXA UK’s retail business.
In an update, the insurer confirmed that the company stalwart has been tapped to be Gareth Howell’s successor after the latter left AXA Retail at the end of February and Matras filled the gap from then in an interim or acting capacity. Prior to this month’s permanent appointment, he held the position of MD for personal intermediary and corporate partners.
“I am very pleased to be taking on this role,” stated Matras, who became part of AXA in 2000 before leaving in 2008 to serve as managing director at Groupama Insurances. He returned in 2014.
The new AXA Retail executive MD added: “I look forward to working with my colleagues in the retail business and across the wider company to deliver against our current plan as well as looking to the future as we develop our Beyond 2020 strategy.”
Commenting on the development, AXA UK & Ireland chief executive Claudio Gienal said he is delighted that Matras will be assuming the post on a permanent basis.
“He has proved to be an effective member of the management committee and AXA Insurance leadership team over the last three months and I look forward to working with him to deliver our ambitious agenda for the retail business this year and beyond,” noted the CEO.
