AXA, which in September announced the first in a series of new hires in its schemes team, has now revealed another major appointment for the business.

John Heaney – who held senior positions at the likes of AIG, Hiscox, and Tokio Marine Kiln – is joining AXA on January 22 after being appointed as head of schemes, a newly created role. He was head of specialist lines underwriting at Aviva, where he worked for over a decade from 1992.

Meanwhile director of commercial intermediary e-trading Deepak Soni will see his current role expanded to include responsibility for the growing schemes business. He will lead the revamped unit, with Heaney reporting to him.

“Schemes business is a vital element of our future growth, and I am delighted that John has joined AXA to help spearhead our efforts,” said Jon Walker, executive managing director of AXA Commercial, AXA Insurance. “John has significant experience in developing strong books of schemes business and will work closely with Deepak in his new role to deliver the same at AXA.”

AXA has also appointed former ERS chief operating officer Tim Yorke as director of transformation. He will assume the role on January 22 as well.

“In tandem, securing the expertise of Tim is a huge statement of intent and confirmation of our determination to continue evolving and meeting the demands of brokers,” added Walker. “He brings diverse, hands-on experience of delivering strategic change and in 2018 will help us to deliver a step change in the delivery of our modernisation programme.

“With these roles in place I am confident we can continue our strong push toward our goals for 2020 and beyond.”
