Markel has brought in Charlotte Harrison as head of UK regional broker development. Harrison will be responsible for driving broker engagement and expanding Markel’s presence across its specialised markets and lines of business.
The key hire brings a wealth of experience to the role, having most recently served as head of SME development & proposition at AXA. Throughout her career, Harrison has held several business development positions across the UK, including in Manchester.
Additionally, she played a pivotal role in AXA’s transformation initiatives, contributing to advancements in technology, broker/customer experience, and underwriting processes.
Richard Brooks, broker development director at Markel, noted: “This is an important role for Markel, and we’re delighted to appoint such an experienced and capable individual in Charlotte.
“Her extensive background and connections in the broker channel, particularly around SME risks, including professional indemnity, will be invaluable as we look to build upon existing broker relationships and develop new ones.”
Harrison, meanwhile, cited Markel’s people-first reputation and commercial sector acumen.
“Regional relationships are a priority for profitable growth plans, and I’m looking forward to helping Markel develop these further as we expand the team,” she commented. “I feel I’ve joined a company that cares about its customers and works hard to do everything it can to provide the best possible products and services for clients and brokers.”
Jo Sykes, divisional director of Markel’s UK broker operations, highlighted the significance of Harrison’s arrival during a time of growth.
“Charlotte is joining us at a period of strong growth for our UK business,” Sykes said. “We’re enhancing our regional presence, growing our product lines, investing in people and technology, and, most importantly, putting a real focus on the needs of our brokers and customers.
“Charlotte will have an important role to play in Markel’s development over the coming years.”
