Former Legal & General chief financial officer Mark Gregory, who was with the FTSE 100 insurer from 1998 to 2017, is replacing Merian Global Investors chief executive Richard Buxton.

Subject to regulatory approval, the appointment comes following the rebranded asset manager’s management buyout in June 2018. Gregory, who is also currently a non-executive director at Direct Line Insurance Group, joined the board of Merian Global Investors last October.

Board chair Sarah Bates described the new CEO as “hugely experienced and enthusiastic about the future of the business” and said she is confident that the company will continue to excel under Gregory’s guidance.

“Having known Mark for many years, I am absolutely convinced that he is the right person to take the business forward,” commented Buxton, who is stepping down from the executive committee but will continue to be involved as a major shareholder and part of the firm’s board.

Meanwhile Gregory, “honoured to be taking on the role of CEO,” said he is dedicated to delivering Merian Global Investors’ ambitious growth plans while maintaining the special culture cultivated under his predecessor’s leadership.
