Atec Group-owned managing general agent (MGA) Arkel has named Jonathan Myers (pictured) as its schemes and EDI manager as part of its efforts to bring new schemes to market faster and support its growth targets for 2025.

Myers joined Arkel from Plum Underwriting, where he was senior business analyst in the company’s e-trade division. Prior to that, he spent 10 years at Towergate, serving in various business analyst and underwriting roles. He also held previous roles at Aviva and Zurich.

In his new position, Myers will supervise the development and management of best of breed non-standard schemes, bringing a methodical and strategic approach to the process. Myers has experience in specialist insurance product development across various in-house and external software platforms, including Polaris, Open GI, SSP, Acturis, CDL and Applied Systems.

Commenting on his appointment, Myers said: “I am delighted to join the Arkel team, it’s a dynamic, fast-paced and innovative MGA, and I relish the opportunity to ensure it remains at the forefront of tech-enabled insurance niche and non-standard scheme development and distribution.”

Kris Lee, chief underwriting officer at Arkel, said that Myers’ appointment was good timing. “We’re constantly adding more schemes to our portfolio, and bringing in a dedicated resource is the logical next step in our growth plan,” Lee said. “His previous experience and vast technical expertise mean he is perfectly aligned with our ambition to take the complexity out of insurance and improve access to market leading specialist schemes.”

Earlier this year, Arkel said it had secured an additional £25 million in delegated authority from AXIS for its landlords’ let property insurance product.

Arkel is part of Atec Group, an insurance distribution and growth platform led by chief executive Brendan Devine. Atec is composed of Ceta, a digital niche personal lines broker and Arkel, an MGA.

In other news, Atec Group recently named Steve Woodford as chief technology officer for the firm.
