The Ardonagh Group, the UK’s largest independent insurance distribution platform, has completed its acquisition of specialist commercial broker Klap Verzekeringsmakelaar to mark its expansion in the Netherlands.
Since its inception in 1954, Klap – based in Amsterdam – has advised SMEs on employee benefits, insurance, and pensions, as well as distributing over €100m of GWP annually. As part of the completed transaction, Klap will be led by current CEO Jorg Roodbeen as it continues to be a key player in the Dutch insurance market with its high levels of growth in recent years.
The completed transaction also marks an exit for Nedvest, the family office, which has supported Klap’s growth by backing the development of its business.
Klap was acquired in April by Ardonagh Europe through Ardonagh Netherlands, a subsidiary. Ardonagh Europe first made waves in the Netherlands in 2022 when it welcomed Léons Group as part of its plan to expand into new European markets.
Ardonagh Europe CEO Connor Brennan officially welcomed Klap into the fold as its specialist within the SME space.
“Klap is a real specialist and leader in the SME insurance market with a wealth of experience within the team. We are excited to support Klap as they stand alongside our other highly respected and long-standing franchise Léons to extend their insurance excellence even more widely to the European market,” Brennan said.
