Nick Burkinshaw, the chairman of specialty at Fidelis until 2017, is now part of Apollo Syndicate Management.
Appointed effective immediately to the newly created board-level post of chief underwriting officer, Burkinshaw brings over three decades of experience to the Lloyd’s of London specialist (re)insurer. He will be supported by the active underwriters of the three syndicates under Apollo’s management – Nick Jones, Matthew Newman, and Mark Rayner.
The Catlin veteran, whose career at the firm started out in 1992 in his capacity as marine underwriter, held senior positions such as group underwriting board director and active underwriter between 2003 and 2014. At Apollo, Burkinshaw will oversee the development of the company’s underwriting strategy.
Commenting on the appointment, chief executive David Ibeson said: “Apollo’s strength relies on our market-leading talent driving profitable growth in our areas of specialty. The role has been created as a result of the growth in size and the variety of classes written and planned to be written in the future.
“Nick is a recognised leader in the field, with an outstanding pedigree and track record of quality underwriting and management and will contribute significantly to the development and implementation of our long-term strategy.”
