Gabriel Ewing will be joining Amwins Global Risks as head of its new transaction risk practice in London.
Amwins Global Risks, one of the largest independent wholesale brokers in London, is the international arm of global specialty insurance broker Amwins.
Ewing has almost 20 years of legal and M&A experience, building his expertise in warrant and indemnity insurance, stand-alone tax and contingent liability risk. He is also experienced in emerging and frontier markets, which will be beneficial for the company as it aims to develop its client base into new markets.
Amwins Global Risks chief executive Nate Mathis commented that transaction risk liability is a “highly complementary addition” to the company’s existing product portfolio in professional and financial lines.
“[Ewing’s] diverse expertise will be invaluable as we continue to expand our capabilities and provide comprehensive solutions to our clients,” Mathis said.
Aside from his responsibilities in leading and developing the company’s services in the traditional transaction risk placements, Ewing will also lead the development of other growing segments of transactional risk, including environmental and intellectual property risks.
Ewing’s appointment comes after the announcement made earlier this year that Nick Abraham will be taking over as chief executive of Amwins Global Risks, effective Jan. 1.
Mathis, who has served in the role for three years, will return to the company’s US-based leadership team, where he will focus on the company’s key growth initiatives.
Mark Cody, who is currently managing director of Amwins Global Risks, will become president.
Last year, Amwins Global Risks acquired energy broker Robert Armytage & Partners for an undisclosed amount. It also partnered with Blood Cancer UK to raise up to £100,000 in the next two years for blood cancer awareness.
Elsewhere at Amwins, the company’s International Underwriting segment has appointed Keith Trivitt as underwriting director for its Amplify portfolio solution.
