Allianz UK has announced the appointment of Adam Lloyd as chief underwriting officer and Claire Buck (pictured) as chief technical officer—a newly created position—in its commercial division, effective April 14. Both will report to Phuong Ly, the incoming managing director for Allianz Commercial in the UK, who assumes his role on April 1. These appointments are pending regulatory approval.
Lloyd brings over 15 years of experience with Allianz Australia, having held roles in both underwriting and sales. According to a news release, he has been instrumental in shaping portfolio strategy and underwriting governance.
Buck has nearly two decades of experience at Allianz UK, with expertise across various functions including SME/digital, underwriting, the executive office, and business architecture.
“Underwriting risk and technical excellence is at the heart of everything we do so these are important roles for our commercial business. I’m confident that both Adam and Claire will excel in their new roles,” said Nick Hobbs, interim managing director of Allianz Commercial UK.
Allianz UK recently announced several leadership changes within its commercial division. Ly has been appointed as the commercial managing director UK, effective April 3, 2025. In this role, Ly will lead Allianz’s commercial insurance business in the UK, encompassing digital, mid-market, and large-corporate segments, as well as the engineering inspection, legal protection, and fleet businesses. He will report to Colm Holmes, CEO of Allianz Holdings UK, and Dirk Vogler, chief regions officer international at Allianz Commercial.
In February, Mitch Bennett was appointed as the new head of claims for large-corp and specialty in the UK region. Bennett is set to lead the claims services for large corporate and specialty customers. He will report to Ly and Thomas Sepp, Allianz Commercial’s chief claims officer. Bennett joined Allianz Commercial in 2022 as head of property, entertainment, natural resources and construction claims in the UK region.
