Hymans Robertson has appointed Muhammad Ali (pictured) as the new head of Lloyd’s and the London Market within its general insurance (GI) team. His appointment, which is part of the firm’s ongoing expansion in 2024, follows the recent recruitment of Krish Kistnassamy as head of GI and the addition of two new consultants to the team.
According to a news release, Ali will focus on enhancing the firm’s GI practice, particularly in the development of a comprehensive reserving offering. Ali will lead the creation of solutions for the London Market, addressing emerging risks and improving reserving processes.
Having joined Hymans Robertson in 2023 from Deloitte, where he spent nearly a decade, Ali brings significant experience in actuarial reserving. He has led independent reviews, uncertainty analysis, and process transformations, and has overseen the communication of technical provisions in line with GAAP and Solvency regulations. His previous roles included developing new reserving models for global insurers, conducting claims reviews for the UK government, and providing reserve assessments for M&A activities across multiple regions. Ali has also led initiatives to address newer risks such as cyber, political violence, and liabilities stemming from the sharing economy.
Reflecting on his new role, Ali expressed his commitment to addressing future challenges in the insurance market.
“I am honoured to step into the role of head of Lloyd’s and London Market at such a pivotal time for the industry,” Ali said. “I am committed to building on this legacy to address the challenges and opportunities ahead. I am also excited to support Krish and the team at Hymans Robertson in building our new general insurance practice. It’s an incredible opportunity to shape a practice that combines innovation with such depths of experience, and I look forward to contributing to this exciting journey while working alongside some of the best minds in the industry.”
Kistnassamy praised Ali’s appointment, stating: “Ali is the consummate professional and I know our clients will benefit from his independent views, insights and recommended improvements on their reserving processes and methods. The GI team at Hymans is coming together and we are looking forward to adding real value to our current and future GI clients. Ali is instrumental to our mission.”
