A general insurance giant has confirmed its commitment to the intermediated channel with the appointment of two new directors of distribution.
Ageas Insurance has appointed Darren Whittaker to the position of director of distribution for large personal lines brokers and affinity partnerships. Meanwhile, Mark Auchterlonie has been appointed to the position of director of distribution for large commercial lines brokers and new business development.
These leadership positions, split by intermediated distribution channel and reporting to Ant Middle, chief customer officer of Ageas, represent a move to replace the insurer’s retiring distribution and development director Chris Dobson, who will remain with the business until the end of the year.

“These internal appointments demonstrate the effectiveness of our succession plans, while also maximising our already strong and established relationships with the intermediated market,” said Middle. “Both Mark and Darren are well respected distribution leaders and with their significant industry experience and extensive market networks. I’m more than confident that we have an extremely strong team to continue to deliver the service and results our brokers and partners have come to expect from Ageas.”
Middle also thanked Dobson for his “his contribution to Ageas and for his assistance in developing this new structure.”
The insurer said that recruitment for a third director of distribution for regional brokers, niche, and specialist schemes is underway and that it expects to confirm an appointment by the end of the year.
