AFL Insurance Brokers is continuing its expansion at a rapid pace, swooping for two highly respected reinsurance professionals.
The firm has hired Barry Rowland, formerly a facilities and binder partner at JLT Re, to take over the role of director, property and casualty. Meanwhile, it has also moved for Chris Cavani who takes the position of director in AFL’s expanding property practice having previously been head of property at Alston Gayler.
“We are delighted to welcome Barry and Chris to the growing AFL team,” said AFL chairman Toby Esser. “They bring rich insurance experience spanning almost 50 years combined, and have excellent relationships with the London market as well as internationally, particularly in North America.”
Rowland has spent more than 30 years working on the retail and wholesale side of insurance on both sides of the Atlantic. He commented that the “the diversity of my career to date meant I was able to very quickly see the broader potential in AFL and I relish the opportunity to join such a forward-thinking company at this exciting juncture.”
Meanwhile, Cavani has been in the industry for 16 years specialising in providing solutions through binder line-slips and stand-alone placements. He has had particular focus on the US and Canadian retail and wholesale business.
“I believe 2018 will be a year of significant change for the property and casualty business, with fresh opportunities for independents like AFL to present a real alternative as choice becomes more limited elsewhere,” added Esser. “We look forward to further growing our presence in this space.”
