Things have become official for Mervyn Skeet (pictured), who is now director of general insurance policy at the Association of British Insurers (ABI) after serving in an interim capacity from December 2022.
Skeet, who has more than 33 years of insurance industry experience, came on board the ABI in November 2017 as assistant director and taxation head. His credentials include time spent as XL Group managing director and Chubb senior vice president.
“These are exceptional times for our industry as we tackle the impact of economic and geo-political challenges while looking ahead to the opportunities and future risks of tomorrow,” said Skeet in a release.
“I’m honoured to be an advocate for the general insurance industry and look forward to continuing to work closely with our members to make a difference on the issues that matter most.”
Prior to joining the insurance industry, the ABI director worked at accountancy firm Moores Rowland. A fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, Skeet specialises in international tax policy and its impact on the global insurance industry.
“I’m delighted that Mervyn has been appointed our director of general insurance policy,” commented ABI director general Hannah Gurga. “He brings significant experience to the role and has already made demonstrable progress on a number of priority areas in the first quarter of the year.
“We have a rich pool of talent here at the ABI, and I’m especially pleased that an internal candidate was successful through a highly competitive recruitment process.”
Skeet’s predecessor, James Dalton, left the ABI last year to join the Motor Insurers’ Bureau.
