Insurance tycoon and Brexit supporter Arron Banks has endorsed Raheem Kassam for the leadership of the UK Independence Party (UKIP).
On Saturday, October 22, Southern Rock Insurance boss Arron Banks announced his support for Kassam on Twitter. The GoSkippy founder said he was “very impressed” with Kassam’s ideas, calling him “the candidate to beat.”
“He's got my support,” the insurance millionaire said of Kassam, the former aide of resigned UKIP leader Nigel Farage.
Banks, one of the biggest UKIP donors, said that Kassam will “best represent” Farage’s values and that he will “mark a radical direction” for the party.
“Nigel trusts Raheem as well. He's very bright with good ideas. UKIP needs to be radical to win,” banks said.
“Raheem is gathering strength right across the party. I expect him to do very well,” he added.
Kassam, who is also the editor-in-chief of
Breitbart News London, said UKIP is in an “existential crisis” and that he wants to “make the party great again,” according to the
BBC.
In a recent interview with the news agency, Kassam said he would “probably” support Donald Trump in the US presidential race since Hillary Clinton is the worse candidate.
In an article for
Breitbart on Sunday, Kassam vowed to increase the UKIP membership to 100,000 by 2020. He said the party needed a digital revolution and Farage’s involvement.
As for the UK, Kassam said the Brexit move should not be a “half measure.” He also cited the need to tackle the rise of radical Islam and called for simpler taxation, an audit of the Ministry of Defence, health and education reforms, and limited British foreign aid and military involvement in war zones.
