A new telematics app by Vodafone Germany will soon be used by insurance firm Wuerttembergische Versicherung for its clients aged below 30.

A Telecompaper report said the telco has launched an app-based telematics service for insurers, with Wuerttembergische Versicherung being the first to partner with Vodafone in Germany.

Driving behaviour is tracked and recorded in the app while data analysis is shared with insurance providers via a central telematics server. Wuerttembergische Versicherung will start offering the app come July.

According to the report, users are provided individual ratings based on driving behaviour as well as tips for improved driving to lower insurance premiums.

The use of telematics in car insurance has taken off, with a report by Ptolemus Consulting Group saying that nearly 50% of the world’s vehicles will be insured with usage-based policies by 2030.

The industry is forecast to grow to nearly 100 million policies worldwide in the next three years, with telematics-collected data also expected to make the claims process faster.
