The Green Insurer has announced a partnership with Carbon Neutral Britain to offset the carbon emissions of all its customers. This follows the company’s achievement of Carbon Neutral certification for its own operations last year.

Through the partnership, The Green Insurer will offset emissions from its customers’ driving by funding seven internationally certified carbon offset projects. These projects are designed to provide environmental and social benefits in various regions globally.

The selected projects include the Salkhit Wind Farm in Mongolia, which is the country’s first grid-connected wind farm and provides renewable energy. The Elazig Solar Farm in Turkey is a high-efficiency solar farm that reduces the country's dependence on fossil fuels. In India, the Karnataka Wind Power project contributes clean electricity to the Southern Regional Electricity Grid, replacing fossil fuel-generated power.

The Green Insurer is also supporting the Household Solar Lighting project in Zambia, which provides solar lighting to households without electricity, replacing kerosene lamps. In Costa Rica, the company is backing a reforestation initiative that has planted over one million trees to restore former pastureland. In Uruguay, a reforestation project is working to restore 21,298 hectares of land previously used for cattle grazing. The company is also funding the Blue Carbon Mangrove Restoration project in Pakistan’s Indus River Delta, aimed at removing significant amounts of CO2 from the atmosphere through mangrove restoration.

The Green Insurer CEO Paul Baxter explained that the company's goal has always been to support drivers in reducing their carbon footprint. The partnership with Carbon Neutral Britain extends this support by offsetting emissions from customers' driving, while also contributing to global environmental efforts.

Caspar Eccles-Williams, senior environmental consultant at Carbon Neutral Britain, stated that transport is a major source of greenhouse gas emissions in the UK. He highlighted that carbon offsetting plays an important role in mitigating emissions during the transition to more sustainable transportation methods.

The Green Insurer offers car insurance policies through its website and price comparison sites, using a Green Driving Score to calculate premiums and provide discounts. The company also offers UK-based customer service and discounts with a range of retailers. It plans to expand its partnerships and could extend the range of insurance policies it offers in the future.
