Kingfisher Insurance has partnered with The MG Car Club to launch an insurance scheme that specifically caters to younger classic car enthusiasts, breaking down traditional age barriers in classic car ownership.
The new “MG Car Club Insurance”, underwritten by Peter James Insurance, offers comprehensive coverage to club members of all ages—a significant departure from industry norms that typically restrict classic car insurance to drivers over 25 or 30 years old.
The scheme includes an “Accompanied Driver Cover” option, allowing young enthusiasts to drive MGs alongside parents or grandparents for a modest premium, even before they own a vehicle themselves.
The package includes several unique benefits for club members, such as exclusive rates, free agreed value services, and coverage for both classic and modern MGs. Members also receive UK and European breakdown coverage, tools and spare parts protection up to £3,000, and coverage for track day events.
“We’ve worked closely with the club to develop a bespoke scheme designed to fulfil members’ needs and offer a true benefit of membership through discounted premiums and unique features to help you enjoy MGs with peace of mind,” said Dave Youngs, partnerships director at Peter James Insurance.
MG Car Club chairman Lorraine Noble-Thompson emphasised the scheme’s significance: “Our objective was to create the best insurance scheme available for MGs anywhere in the market adding significant value to being a member of MG Car Club. Our new and exclusive features have not only addressed shortcomings in our previous insurance, but also provides members of the MG Car Club unique benefits they cannot get anywhere else.”
