Auto lifestyle and specialist insurance brand Hagerty has launched a new programme which would allow car enthusiasts to reduce their carbon footprint without sacrificing their passion for automobiles.
The new Enthusiast Carbon Offset (ECO) programme is a voluntary initiative available to all car enthusiasts, whether they are insurance customers of Hagerty or otherwise. Those who sign up for the programme will first be asked to enter their vehicle type and their expected mileage into a digital emissions calculator powered by reforestation programme Chrome Carbon. The calculator will then reveal to the driver their vehicle’s expected carbon impact, and then recommends how they can offset it through supporting reforestation efforts.
A release mentioned that the offset programme is made possible through Chrome Carbon’s partnership with “certified climate bodies and organisations” to fund reforestation and carbon reduction projects.
Hagerty also explained that the ECO is its first step in a holistic “Hagerty Impact” strategy that will “educate and empower enthusiasts to drive positive change across a range of social and environmental activities.”
“Hagerty is committed to helping drivers reduce the carbon footprint of their vehicles in a simple and affordable way,” said Hagerty International managing director Mark Roper. “The Hagerty ECO initiative is completely voluntary and can be purchased separately from any Hagerty product and while we believe this scheme offers the best solution on the market, we fully respect that some owners may not want to partake in such an initiative just yet.”
Last October, Hagerty launched a new car club partner programme for UK car clubs. Through the programme, Hagerty will provide its partner car clubs with revenue generation through sales of auto insurance to members; exclusive access to Hagerty events; a custom valuation offer with exclusive media content, and more.
