Imagine having a fleet of 670 vehicles and at least one of them gets damaged on a near weekly basis. That’s what Dundee City Council seems to be dealing with.
A report by the
Evening Telegraph said that, because of vandalism alone, insurance claims made by the council amounted to £23,540 for the 2014-15 period and another £32,057 in 2015-16. Other causes of damage to the council’s vehicles include driver error and accidents.
Overall, according to the report, the council makes an average of just under three insurance claims a week due to fleet damage. Over the three-year period from 2013, claims value reached £428,764.
As for driver error, vehicles were damaged more than 80 times because of misjudged clearances – that’s £78,435 worth of claims for three years. In terms of accidents, council vehicles were hit by third parties over 40 times during the period.
