Insurance industry partner Copart UK, which handles over half a million vehicles each year, is setting up a new “super centre” in Bury St Edmunds.
“Demand from our insurer customers continues to rise,” said UK and Ireland managing director Jane Pocock (pictured), “and it’s fantastic that we are investing to future-proof our business, considering the evolving car parc and the increase in extreme weather events.
“This site enhances our network of super centres and improves storage capacity for anticipated growth in recycling, electric, and hydrogen vehicles, as well as helping to accelerate the diversification of our business into green parts handling.”
The new location will span 68 acres and create somewhere between 100 and 120 jobs at the vehicle remarketing and recycling firm. Copart UK said the additional centre, subject to standard planning, is slated to be operational by the end of next year.
Pocock added: “This investment marks another significant step forward for our UK business and illustrates our ongoing commitment to remaining at the forefront of the industry and continuing to provide market-leading services to all our customers.
“From an environmental point of view, Copart is committed to ensuring sustainability across all operation centres, so we will be deploying sustainable building methods and materials with large parts of the building construction undertaken off-site and at specialist factories where there is greater control of the process and much less waste.”
Additionally, native species will be planted across 17 acres of the site, to not only retain but strengthen existing areas of established mature trees and woodland. Wildlife growth will also be supported.
Currently, Copart has 16 sites across the UK. The company’s ongoing expansion includes the doubling of operational capabilities in Scotland and the quadrupling in size of Copart’s operations centre in Bristol.
