AXA Commercial is stepping up to assist small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with their fleet management challenges by introducing a complimentary online health check tool.
The initiative aims to pinpoint potential safety issues and direct users towards valuable resources to enhance their knowledge and practices. Given the common scenario where SMEs might not have a fleet manager, the risk management aspect often gets sidelined or inadequately addressed due to a lack of know-how, impacting both safety and insurance costs.
Doug Jenkins, AXA Commercial’s motor technical risk manager, highlights the online tool’s simplicity and effectiveness, saying: “This is a simple way for customers operating smaller fleets to understand the importance of risk management and its benefits. A quick questionnaire identifies the risks most likely to result in a motor claim and identify whether they are taking the best steps to protect themselves, their businesses, and their drivers.
“There are lots of small things our customers could be doing for very little cost, or in some cases no cost at all, that could significantly improve the safety of their fleet. The end result could be fewer accidents, and that’s better for everyone.”
Consisting of approximately 30 yes-or-no questions, the health check is accessible via mobile phones or tablets. It not only gives an overall score but also breaks down ratings into categories like driver management, in-vehicle technology, and policies and procedures, identifying shortcomings and suggesting solutions through AXA’s resources.
Jenkins added: “This isn’t designed to be punitive or onerous; the aim is to provide customers with valuable guidance that can benefit their businesses. There are no consequences of completing the health check; it has no impact on their insurance and isn’t compulsory. However, for those customers who choose to engage, we are opening the door to AXA’s risk management expertise and highlighting tools we can offer to support them – and it’s all completely free of charge.”
A collaboration with Fleet Risk Review, the health check educates customers on the importance of risk management, the rationale behind the questions, and the significance of implementing safety measures like driver’s license checks and the distribution of driver handbooks.
