Allianz Partners and Uber have partnered to introduce Vehicle Interruption Cover (VIC), a digital insurance product designed to protect the income of Uber drivers in the UK when their vehicles are off the road.
The offering, developed with the support of insurtech broker Indeez, is available to Uber drivers enrolled in the Uber Pro programme and accessed via a subscription through the Uber driver app.
VIC is part of the Partners Protection Programme, a suite of financial protections available to Uber drivers through Allianz Partners and Uber. The programme includes benefits such as workplace accident and injury cover, sick pay, and maternity and paternity support.
Jean-Marc Pailhol, chief officer global strategic partnerships and board member at Allianz Partners, described the new product as an essential addition to the offerings provided in collaboration with Uber.
“Our goal is to become the largest provider of insurance and assistance solutions for gig economy workers in Europe, and this product is another step to achieving that. And we’re delighted to offer this service to help ensure members of the growing gig economy are fully protected,” Pailhol said.
Hendrik Todte, director of Uber Affinity UK, also highlighted how VIC provides a seamless experience for drivers.
“We are keen to offer VIC to our Driving Partners,” Todte said. “It is a seamless experience and in the unfortunate case of an accident, drivers can benefit from financial protection to bridge potential downtime.”
Indeez, which powers the end-to-end digital experience for VIC, highlighted its commitment to creating inclusive insurance solutions for gig economy workers.
“At Indeez, we're excited to launch Vehicle Interruption Cover with Allianz Partners and Uber, supporting UK Uber drivers when their vehicles are off the road. This initiative reflects our commitment to sustainable, inclusive insurance that fuels partner growth. We're proud to help drivers maintain their livelihoods and look forward to expanding these benefits to more markets,” Indeez CEO and founder s Vikas Chhariya said.
