Career paths are a close kin of dating – from prospects, to rejections and first impressions. In Jane Walker’s (pictured) case, she found ‘the one’ in terms of the industry to belong to through a form of matchmaking, having landed an insurance job with the help of an adviser.
Now the managing director of Purple Partnership broker JRW Risk Solutions cherishes the time she spends with the firm, talking to Insurance Business about growth plans and what she is blessed to be doing.
What brought you to the world of insurance?
Like most people, I fell into insurance with a careers adviser fixing me up with an interview at Willis Corroon, who offered me a professional training programme with college day release to obtain my professional qualifications. I chose them as I could earn and learn along the way.
What do you love about your current remit at JRW Risk Solutions?
Being the MD of JRW Risk Solutions allows me to be in control of my own destiny. Watching the business grow, relationships with clients develop, and the staff working together as a team is a real pleasure to watch.
This year, what are your plans or priorities for the West Midlands broker?
The plans this year are to continue to grow JRW Risk Solutions organically, and we would consider an acquisition if the right one comes along. In a sector that is consolidating, we are committed to remaining independent providing local businesses with the right insurance advice, face-to-face meetings, and continuing to provide the first-class service to our clients they have become accustomed to.
Where would you be if not in insurance?
I am very fortunate to be running a business that I enjoy, which gives me the variety and each day is different and exciting. If I wasn’t involved in insurance, I would probably be involved in the property sector.
Name one thing that your peers probably don’t know about you.
I have a love for DIY (do it yourself), whether it be painting, decorating, repairing, or making good which came in useful with our recent office move.
