VIG Re has named Marc Haushofer (pictured above) as executive director of international business development, effective May 1.
Haushofer brings more than four decades of experience in the re/insurance industry. He was most recently senior vice president for Asia Pacific at RenaissanceRe, a role he held from November 2023 to October 2024.
Before that, he served as executive vice president and CEO Asia Pacific at Validus Re, where he led the establishment and operations of the company’s Singapore branch from 2008 through 2023.
He also held leadership roles at Munich Re, including CEO and principal officer of the Singapore branch from 2001 to 2007, and earlier served as deputy member of executive management at Munich Re in Munich. His international experience also includes managerial roles at Munich Re Tokyo and its offices in Germany.
Haushofer chaired the Singapore Reinsurers’ Association from 2017 through the end of 2024.
VIG Re said that Haushofer’s background will support its efforts to grow its international business and expand its global reach.
Earlier this month, VIG Re also appointed Viktor Faucret as managing director of VIG Re France and head of Western Europe for its treaty non-life business unit. The company has positioned this appointment as part of its broader effort to strengthen its brand and operations in Western Europe.
The reinsurer, part of Vienna Insurance Group, also contributed to the firm’s financial growth in 2024.
In the first half of 2024, the group functions segment, which includes VIG Re, reported insurance service revenue of €895.6 million, representing a 12.2% increase compared to the same period in the previous year.
This growth was attributed to an increase in intragroup reinsurance business at VIG Holding and VIG Re's heightened focus on business outside the group.
