Specialty Risk Re (SRR), a newly founded collateral reinsurance firm, has announced the successful closure of a $50 million funding round led by NMS Capital Group.
Launched in 2024, SRR aims to become a key capital partner for managing general agents (MGAs) and insurance carriers. The company focuses on quota share and excess-of-loss reinsurance programs, collaborating with a select number of program administrators to develop sustainable, long-term risk-sharing solutions.
“This funding marks a significant milestone in our vision to establish SRR as a trusted and well-capitalized partner in the reinsurance market. Our strategy is built on disciplined risk selection, allowing us to construct a well-diversified book of business without overexposure to any single class or region," said Jonathan Collura, president and CEO of SRR.
This investment boosts SRR's capacity to mitigate the rising shortfall in the reinsurance sector.
SRR's underwriting strategy targets mid- to long-tail risks, employing a steady, systematic growth model to boost long-term insurance and investment returns.
“By leveraging our strong capitalization and domestic presence, SRR is positioned to be the go-to reinsurance partner in today’s risk environment,” Collura said.
The positive market response to SRR's business model has led to further commitments from investors, promising additional capital by the end of Q1 2025.
This financial backing is expected to allow SRR to scale its operations in line with market demand, ensuring the firm can continue providing stable, long-term capital solutions to its partners.
