International specialty re/insurance managing general agent (MGA) Rokstone has announced the appointment of Graham Amato (pictured above) to launch a new global sports personal accident portfolio.

As part of the new initiative, Rokstone aims to leverage its global presence and Amato’s expertise in the specialty personal accident realm to deliver solutions for high-net-worth sports professionals on an international scale.

The new portfolio will launch with A-rated capacity, offering tailored, Lloyd’s-approved wordings for various sports, including motorsport, golf, tennis, and football. These wordings will cover the four key risks of accidental death, permanent total disablement, temporary total disablement, and medical expenses and repatriation.

The coverage will also provide some of the highest levels of protection in the market, both on a per accident and on an individual basis. Initially, the coverage will be available in the UK, Europe, and North America, with plans to expand into Asia.

Amato joins Rokstone from Worldwide Special Risks, where he was a senior underwriter on worldwide contingency and personal accident books. With a 35-year underwriting career, Amato has held senior positions at Aviva, InterHannover, and HDI Global Specialty.

Amato also plans to expand Rokstone’s presence in the sports personal accident market and explore niche areas such as eSports and embedded personal accident solutions for sports associations.

Gavin Dollings, chief underwriting officer – commercial, celebrated the establishment of the new division and Amato’s appointment to head the new unit.

“We’re delighted to welcome Graham to the team and launch sports personal accident, a great addition to our diversified range of portfolios which also includes our innovative sports & prize indemnity,” Dollings said.

“This place is a breath of fresh air,” Amato said. “There is a culture of all being in it together. The incredibly approachable senior team find reasons to do things, rather than the other way around. They’ve resourced me properly; I can hit the ground running, and with the strong teamwork culture I have access to lots of cross-over potential with multiple classes of business. Rokstone is an MGA like no other – the dynamism and momentum is infectious.”
