Allianz has unveiled its title sponsorship of The Auckland Travel Show, scheduled for March 22 to 23, 2025, at the Auckland Showgrounds.

Designed for New Zealand travellers, the event will feature a range of destinations and experiences, with a special preview for travel agents on March 21, hosted by the Travel Agents Association of New Zealand.

What to expect from the title partnership

Rob Eliott, managing director of Lemongrass Productions, the event organiser, said that Allianz’s involvement adds value to the event.

“To have the global leader in travel insurance as our presenting partner is a huge addition to what is shaping up to be a fantastic event for everyone looking for travel inspiration in 2025,” he said.

Kevin Blyth, managing director of Allianz New Zealand, said the partnership aligns with the company’s mission.

“Our team’s love of travel makes this partnership a natural fit. Our business is about being there for partners and travellers when those unforeseen events arise so that we can provide our expertise and experience to facilitate positive outcomes,” he said.

Worldcare rebranding

The sponsorship coincides with Allianz’s rebranding of its Worldcare travel insurance to Allianz Travel Insurance, a move that integrates its New Zealand offerings into the company’s global portfolio.

The rebranded Allianz Travel Insurance offers New Zealand travellers more flexibility, enabling them to tailor coverage to suit specific travel needs. Options include protection for trip cancellations, snow sports, cruises, adventure activities, and high-value items.

Lauren Swift, head of B2C at Allianz Partners New Zealand, said the rebrand reflects a commitment to meeting customer needs.

“With Allianz Travel Insurance, New Zealanders can now choose their coverage themselves, knowing we’re here to help 24/7 as they embark on their journeys,” she said.

Shifting travel trends inform insurance demand

The rebrand comes as New Zealanders adjust travel plans in response to changing economic conditions.

According to a January 2024 survey conducted by Southern Cross Travel Insurance (SCTI) and YouGov, 80% of New Zealanders plan domestic trips within the next year, while 61% intend to travel internationally.

However, cost is a key consideration, with 79% of respondents ranking affordability among their top three factors when selecting travel insurance.

These trends indicate a growing need for policies that balance cost-effectiveness with comprehensive coverage. By integrating its offerings under the Allianz brand, the company aims to address these preferences and cater to the evolving needs of New Zealand travellers.
