Following heavy rain and winds striking several regions in the North Island on Sunday and Monday, IAG said it is “actively supporting” its customers that have been affected by the severe weather.
Households in Northland, Auckland, Waikato and Bay of Plenty were the most affected. Weather reports said that more than a month’s worth of rain fell overnight, leading to flooding in many areas, submerging homes, businesses and vehicles.
As of 8am Tuesday, IAG had received more than 1,000 claims.
“AMI has received 482 claims and State has received 254,” said Wayne Tippet (pictured above), IAG executive general manager, claims. “NZI, Lantern, NAC and Swann, as well as our bank partners, ASB, Westpac, BNZ, and the Co-operative Bank, have received a combined total of 324 claims. In total, across all our brands, we have received 1,060 claims.”
Tippet said residents affected by the severe weather should continue following safety advice and guidance from Civil Defence and local authorities.
“With the storm providing yet another reminder of the devastating impacts of severe weather events driven by climate change, we are encouraging every New Zealander to take a moment today to double check the details of their own insurance policies,” Tippet said. “We are here to help, and the quickest way our customers can make an insurance claim is online, but if they prefer to speak to someone, they can, of course, give us a call. Please note our NZI customers should contact their broker in the first instance.”
