QBE Insurance New Zealand has entered a partnership with Conservation Volunteers New Zealand (CVNZ) to support environmental restoration projects and promote climate resilience efforts across the country.

The collaboration includes financial contributions and hands-on involvement from QBE employees, customers, and business partners. Volunteers will have opportunities to participate in conservation activities focused on restoring waterways and natural habitats in various communities.

Commitment to environmental sustainability

Jonathan Groves, chief executive officer of QBE New Zealand & Pacific, said the partnership reflects the company’s commitment to supporting environmental sustainability efforts in Aotearoa.

“Our environment is one of Aotearoa New Zealand’s greatest Taonga (treasures), and taking care of it is key to ensuring our communities remain strong and resilient,” he said.

He added that working with CVNZ enables QBE’s people, customers, and partners to take part in practical conservation efforts alongside experts who are dedicated to protecting our natural landscapes.

Major restoration projects

As part of the initiative, QBE will support two major CVNZ-led restoration projects – the Ōtākaro Avon River Corridor in Christchurch and the Papakura Stream restoration in Auckland. Volunteers will assist with reforestation and habitat restoration work in these areas.

Aaron Jaggar, general manager of CVNZ, said the partnership will enhance the organisation’s ability to engage the public in environmental initiatives.

“This support will allow us to significantly increase our impact and engage even more members of the community in planting and restoration activities. We can’t wait to see QBE volunteers making a real impact in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland, Te Whanganui-a-Tara Wellington, and Ōtautahi Christchurch,” he said.

The partnership follows the launch of the QBE Foundation’s Catalysing Impact program, an initiative aimed at supporting purpose-driven businesses and impact enterprises focused on climate resilience and social inclusion.

Catalysing Impact program

Developed in partnership with Social Impact Hub, the Catalysing Impact program provides financial assistance and strategic guidance to help participating organisations attract third-party investment.

Funding ranges from $10,000 to $400,000, with additional access to mentorship in impact measurement and business development.

“This initiative not only provides funding but also leverages the expertise of our employees, enabling us to drive meaningful, long-term change while strengthening our connection to the communities we operate in,” said QBE Global Foundation chair Viv Bower.

Eligible businesses can submit expressions of interest for the program until March 3.
