Australia is experiencing a heatwave and the scorching temperatures are set to head to New Zealand next, Kiwis have been warned.

An article by TVNZ detailed a report by 1 NEWS weather presenter Dan Corbett, which suggests New Zealand will see some upper 20s, and temperatures in the lower 30s on the cards for the east coast, the Bay of Plenty and potentially Auckland next week.

Adelaide reportedly reached its hottest day in 80 years, with the temperature reaching 46.6C on January 24. Records were also broken when temperatures rose to 47.3C in Snowtown, 47C in Port Lincoln, 45.6C at Stenhouse Bay and 46.9C at Roseworthy.

South Australian Country Fire Services state duty commander Yvette Dowling reportedly urged the public to avoid risky behaviour in order to minimise the bushfire threat.

“If a fire does start with these forecast weather conditions, we’re not going to be able to control that fire,” she said. “The communities are at risk, our firefighters are at risk, all emergency services are at risk.”
