The Australian and New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance (ANZIIF), in collaboration with Young Insurance Professionals (YIPs), is set to host its Rising Stars in Insurance Seminar across five locations in 2025.

The event – which has previously been held in Sydney, Melbourne, and Auckland – will now also take place in Brisbane and Perth, increasing access for early-career insurance professionals in the region.

The seminar is designed to provide industry knowledge and practical skills to young professionals, supporting their career growth. The 2025 theme, “Building Meaningful Connections,” will focus on strategies to help attendees develop and maintain professional relationships.

Expansion of Rising Stars in Insurance Seminar

ANZIIF CEO Katrina Shanks highlighted the significance of adding new locations for the 2025 event.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for young insurance professionals to gain practical insights they can apply to their roles, helping them build relationships that will last for the duration of their careers,” she said.

Supporting young insurance professionals’ career

Tahlia Rogers-Brown (pictured), Australasian sponsorship and partnership manager for YIPs, said the organisation was pleased to work with ANZIIF to bring the seminar to a wider audience.

“As YIPs continues to grow, we’re committed to aligning with organisations that share our values and support the development of young professionals. ANZIIF’s dedication to education and industry connections makes this partnership a natural fit,” she said.

Rogers-Brown, who also works as a client executive at Marsh New Zealand’s Affinity Professional Risks team, has played a role in securing industry sponsorships for YIPs, which has seen increased engagement from companies in the past year.

“While I would say I was definitely a significant contributor, it would not have been possible to achieve this without the YIPs team in New Zealand and Australia,” she said in an interview with ANZIIF.

Having started her insurance career at 17, Rogers-Brown credits early industry exposure for shaping her professional path. She has worked in Australia, London, and Amsterdam before returning to New Zealand in 2023 to join Marsh’s professional risks team.

Generational perspectives and workplace diversity

Discussing the insurance sector’s intergenerational workforce, Rogers-Brown said diversity in experience and perspectives strengthens the industry.

“There will always be differences between the generations, and both younger and older generations bring a huge variety of skills and experience to the workplace table,” she said.

She also stressed the importance of continuous learning and professional development in employee retention.

“I think it’s equally important to recognise and have compassion for the fact that we also face similar challenges, such as financial or personal pressures and working towards building a rewarding career. We all desire to feel valued at work. My view is that we need to keep listening and learning,” Rogers-Brown said.

The Rising Stars in Insurance Seminar will take place in Sydney, Melbourne, Auckland, Brisbane, and Perth in 2025. Marsh will serve as the platinum sponsor for all five events.
