A Montreal, Quebec-based insurtech start-up has raised $543,000 in its latest seed round.
The start-up, Emma, has developed a web application to make purchasing life insurance easier through online chat, particularly for young families and mothers. According to information on Emma’s website, the entire purchasing process takes only 20 minutes, does not involve any medical exams, no salespeople are involved, and the insurtech can refund purchases within the first 15 days.
BetaKit reported that the participants in Emma’s recent seed round included Humania Assurance, which contributed $300,000, as well as four angel investors, who together funded the remaining $243,000.
The investment will be used by Emma to expand its life insurance product and its availability across Canada. The company is launching its product in Ontario later this month, June 22, with an eventual nationwide rollout planned by the end of the third quarter this year.
