The organization, affirming its dedication to supporting and advancing women in the reinsurance industry, is undertaking board changes to align with its updated vision, purpose, and values statement. In a Royal Gazette report, the move was described as underscoring WiRe’s commitment to promoting professional development, networking, and diversity among its members.

The additional new directors, who previously served on the events committee and will join the existing board comprising Carmen DeSilva of QBE Bermuda; Susan Smith of Ark Insurance Ltd; Julia Mather of Falcon Insurance PCC Ltd; and Maamoun Rajeh of Arch Worldwide Reinsurance Group, include Kyra Hodsoll, assistant manager of operations at Ariel Re; Sylvia Taylor, reinsurance accountant at Martello Re; and Marlín Ramlal, senior underwriter at MS Re.

Peta White, chair of WiRe and president of Vantage Risk, welcomed the announcement, noting the new board members bring to the board a passion that is invaluable to the organization’s new strategic direction. “This expansion reflects our commitment to inclusivity and excellence, ensuring that WiRe continues to be a vibrant and supportive community,” White said.

Carmen DeSilva, WiRe director and VP – specialty underwriter at QBE Bermuda, noted that the event committee has been transformed into the executive committee. She said this change acknowledges the extensive work the team performs across WiRe’s four pillars: networking and mentoring, education and development, media and communications, and treasury and sponsorship.

“Each board member will be responsible for overseeing these pillars and ensuring that our vision, purpose and values are the driving force behind all decisions,” DeSilva said.

Women in Reinsurance (WiRe) was established in 2008 to support the development and advancement of women in the reinsurance industry. Their membership comprises women from various firms and regulatory bodies. WiRe’s vision is aimed at elevating and supporting women, with a purpose to promote their professional development within Bermuda’s reinsurance industry.
