Howden Re International has announced the appointment of Alexander Roth as managing director, head of capital and operational solutions Europe, effective May 1.

In this new role, Roth will focus on both retroactive and prospective structured reinsurance, and his role includes offering operational support throughout the entire insurance value chain.

See LinkedIn post here.

Based in Germany, Roth brings a wealth of experience from his recent role as global head of M&A and CEO, Europe at DARAG Group, where he led European operations and managed global transaction activities.

His prior experience also includes financial consultancy and M&A advisory positions at E&Y, Duff & Phelps, and Rasenberger Toschek Advisors.

Roth holds a master of professional accounting and a master of financial analysis from La Trobe University, as well as a bachelor in business administration with a focus on finance and accounting from Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München.

He is also a Certified Insurance Risk Manager for Solvency II from Deutsche Versicherungsakademie (DVA) and has passed Level I and II of the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Program, specializing in Corporate Finance and Investments.

Massimo Reina, CEO of Howden Re International, expressed his enthusiasm about Roth's appointment.

“It’s a pleasure to welcome Alex to the team,” Reina said. “Howden Re delivers a full suite of exceptional reinsurance services, and we clearly reflect that across the International business. Our ability to attract leading talent further enhances our clients’ experience as we build on our outstanding regional offering and connect our local specialists with expertise from across the Howden group.”

Roth’s appointment is just the latest in a string of high-profile hirings for the reinsurer, with Howden Re also recently naming Sebastian Cook as the new deputy CEO of Howden Re International.

Earlier this month, the reinsurer also welcomed Terrence McDowell, Melodie Vanderpuye, and Hannah Ferriday Lanner, with the trio appointed to roles that will enhance Howden Re International’s treaty capabilities, analytics services, and client coordination in the Nordics, respectively.
