SIGNAL IDUNA Reinsurance Ltd (SI Re), a Swiss reinsurer based in Zug, has announced the appointment of Dr Arnold Löw (pictured above) as its next chief executive officer.
Löw will assume his role on May 1, 2025, succeeding Bertrand R Wollner, who will retire on April 30, 2025, after 20 years of leading the company.
Löw joins SI Re with more than 20 years of experience in reinsurance, including leadership roles at Swiss Re. Most recently, he served as head of customer & distribution management for P&C Solutions in the EMEA region.
Löw’s expertise spans customer management, market strategy, risk management, operational excellence, and digital transformation. He holds a doctorate and licentiate in risk management and insurance from the University of St. Gallen and was awarded the Innovation Prize of the Swiss Insurance Industry in 2021.
In his statement, Löw emphasized his commitment to continuing the company’s trajectory and focus on client needs.
"Bertrand and his team have built a reinsurer over the years that is renowned for its solidity and client focus. Together with the SI Re team, I will continue this course in the best interests of our ceding companies and the SIGNAL IDUNA Group,” he said.
“Thanks to his extensive experience, we aim to diversify our portfolio across additional markets and business segments while continuing to support our ceding companies with capacity and reliable solutions in an increasingly uncertain environment. We wish Arnold Löw great success in his new role,” SI Re board chairman Dr Klaus Sticker said.
The outgoing Wollner’s leadership began in 2005, a tenure that SI Re says contributed to transforming the company into a well-diversified European reinsurer. He played a pivotal role in establishing SI Re as a key player in the convergence market for securitization of insurance risks.
"It has been a great honor to lead SI Re over the past 20 years with an extraordinary team. Together, we have built a company characterized by resilience, innovation, and an unwavering commitment to our clients,” Wollner said.
"We would like to express our sincere gratitude to Bertrand R Wollner for his many years of dedicated and highly successful leadership of SI Re,” Sticker said. “Over the past 20 years, as CEO, he has shaped SI Re into a stable and reliable force among European reinsurers in collaboration with the SIGNAL IDUNA Group and his steadily growing team.”
Founded in 2003, SI Re specializes in European markets and non-life lines of business. It operates as a reinsurer with a focus on underwriting discipline and prudent risk management, maintaining strong relationships with ceding companies across its markets.
