Brokers are growing their business in two ways equally – and it answers the question as to which is better: face-to-face or through the internet.
Our latest
Insurance Business poll asked brokers, ‘What is the best way to grow your business?’ The responses were divided evenly between two answers – which could be seen as being diametrically opposed approaches to conducting business.
Five responded that ‘Community involvement’ was the best route, while an equal number voted for ‘Search engine optimization.’
Only two readers selected ‘Via email promotion’ as the best way to grow the business.
The other two choices: ‘Through social media’ and ‘Traditional TV and radio’ received no endorsements from brokers.
Many brokers, like Greg Raymond of Insurance Hero in Ontario, are proponents of search engine optimization.
“A lot of business owners are gravitating to the online search engines to get insurance advice and quotes,” he says, “and we’re happy to be among the top of the search engine results for those types of key words. We do spend a lot of time and effort – and money – at making sure we rank near the top.”
Others like Peter Blodgett of Darling Insurance in Peterborough, Ont., have become community fixtures for their involvement in community fundraising. In Blodgett’s case, it has been his years of hard work as one of the ‘Three Loonies,’ raising money for that community’s food bank.
Our next poll looks at when it is time to call it quits. When are you looking to retire? Five years from now, 10 or never?
