Now that the Christmas break is behind us, one thing is clear about brokers – you never stop working!
We asked brokers in a recent
Insurance Business poll if they enjoy a true holiday, or if they are always ‘on’ for their clients.
A total of 13 responded that family does come first, but they do make themselves available. Six brokers said that the client comes first, while four said that they have someone cover for them.
Perhaps indicative of the interconnected world we work in today, zero brokers said that their phone is off, and it is only family time.
At a recent
Insurance Business roundtable, brokers said that the traditional Monday to Friday, 9-5 world has disappeared, with client expectations of 24/7 availability from brokers.
“Saturday is probably our most productive day,” said Adam Mitchell president of Mitchell & Whale Insurance in Whitby, Ont. “Most people are ready to do business and deal with life on Saturday.”
Our next poll takes a look at the costs of doing business. What is driving them up? Is it high court settlements, unrealistic government regulations, or is it weather-related catastrophic events?
