The Women in Insurance Cancer Crusade (WICC) has secured the support of 20 industry organizations for its three-year national sponsorship program.
Included in the list are AIG, Chubb, Northbridge Insurance, Crawford & Company, Wawanesa Insurance, Liberty Mutual Canada, NFP Canada, Economical Insurance, Travelers Canada, Trisura, CNA Canada, Echelon Insurance, and Allianz Global Assistance.
The sponsors have contributed over $2.2 million towards cancer research and care initiatives. The national sponsorship program is a vital component of WICC’s donation strategy, according to a press release.
Since its founding in 1996, WICC has been working to engage the Canadian insurance community to fund cancer research, provide support and education, and help improve the lives of those affected by cancer.
While initially focused on breast cancer, its mandate has since expanded to encompass prostate and other types of cancer. Through the collective efforts of the property and casualty insurance community, along with its partners, the group has been able to raise $19.2 million in support of cancer research and education.
In 2022 alone, WICC donated over $1 million to the Canadian Cancer Society and related agencies. This contribution was made possible through various WICC events, fundraising initiatives, direct donations, and the national sponsorship program.
“Supporting cancer research through WICC ensures donation dollars have the best chance of making a difference and achieving our mission,” a joint statement from WICC’s leadership said. “For that reason, we are taking this opportunity to celebrate and sincerely thank the 20 companies that make up our national sponsorship program.”
The statement was signed by Dan Beaudry, chair – national sponsorship, Marilyn Horrick, WICC Ontario co-chair, and Garth Pepper, WICC Ontario co-chair.
In April, WICC announced its continued support for the Canadian Cancer Society’s annual fundraising event, Relay For Life.
