Saskatchewan Blue Cross has released its latest Community Investment Report, outlining its support for health literacy, community well-being and diversity, equity and inclusion across the province.

Kelly Wilson, president and chief executive officer of Saskatchewan Blue Cross, stated that the organization believes investing in communities strengthens local networks and supports healthier lives. Wilson also noted that partnerships with various organizations contribute to these efforts.

The 2024 report details Saskatchewan Blue Cross’s collaborations with organizations across the province.

The Ministry of Health proclaimed October 2024 as "Health Literacy Month" to support efforts in promoting health literacy across Saskatchewan. Saskatchewan Blue Cross has also supported the Aboriginal Friendship Centres, which advocate for 11 community hubs working together to share resources and expertise for urban Indigenous populations.

The organization has collaborated with Regina and Saskatoon Open Door Societies to invest in health literacy initiatives for newcomers. These initiatives include vaccine and dental clinics, family physician lists, and online health information sessions. Additionally, Saskatchewan Blue Cross has funded Foundations Learning & Skills Saskatchewan to develop plain language resources for adults, children, and families.

Sheryl Harrow-Yurach, executive director of Foundations Learning & Skills Saskatchewan, stated that over 2,000 brochures were distributed to primary care providers and community partners, with additional materials planned for 2025.

Harrow-Yurach added that Saskatchewan Blue Cross supported a clear language workshop for over 60 University of Saskatchewan medical administrative staff and medical students.

Over the past five years, Saskatchewan Blue Cross has contributed more than $5.6 million to community organizations. As a not-for-profit organization, it continues to focus on supporting health and wellness initiatives. Community organizations can access information on funding programs and application processes online.
