Economical Insurance has renewed its national partnership with the Canadian Red Cross for 2020, to meet the growing needs of Canadians adversely affected by small-scale disasters

The insurer has collaborated with the non-profit since 2013 to support Canadians affected by severe weather events. Economical’s total contribution to the Canadian Red Cross since it began granting $150,000 each year has reached $1,050,000.

“Our customers, and Canadians in general, face more frequent unpredictable emergencies and natural disasters that create anxiety when our families, homes, and livelihoods are put at risk,” said Economical president and CEO Rowan Saunders.

Saunders added that both Economical and the Canadian Red Cross are committed to offering safety and security to those that need it the most.

Nearly 20,000 Canadians have been provided with emergency preparedness training, thanks to Economical’s contributions.

Other key facts related to Economical’s contribution include:

  • The yearly funding provides direct assistance to 165 families who live in over 300 communities across the country.
  • The funding is focused on helping Canadians cope during the first 72 hours following an emergency; the emergency preparedness training has been proven to reduce personal injury, loss of life, and enhance community resiliency
  • More than $13 million has been generated for Red Cross emergency preparedness work in Canada since 2015, thanks to Economical and Red Cross co-branded direct marketing

“When disaster strikes, we mobilize. With the support of long-standing partners like Economical, we have the capability to effectively respond to an emergency every three hours, on average helping more than 300 Canadians per day as a result,” commented Canadian Red Cross president and CEO Conrad Sauvé.
