Back in 2022, Surry-based Westland Insurance Group Ltd., announced an investment deal with $250 billion Ontario Teachers fund. The cashed-up British Columbia Canadian insurance brokerage has now announced the acquisition of Loewen Agencies Ltd., effective March 1,. This strategic move extends Westland's operations into the Saskatchewan communities of Radville, Ceylon, and Minton.
Established in 1947, Loewen Agencies has been a longstanding provider of insurance services, offering coverage for properties, vehicles, businesses, and farms. The firm's deep-rooted presence in these communities is expected to complement Westland's expansion strategy.
Jamie Lyons, President and CEO of Westland Insurance, expressed enthusiasm about the acquisition, stating, "Supporting rural communities across Canada with their insurance needs is an important part of our business model at Westland." He also highlighted the anticipation of integrating Loewen Agencies' experienced team into the Westland family.
This acquisition is part of Westland's broader growth trajectory, following its recent purchase of Youngs Insurance Brokers’ West Burlington office in Ontario, effective Feb. 21. Youngs – Burlington West has served the Greater Toronto Area for over two decades, providing tailored insurance solutions to its clientele.
Westland's expansion efforts are further underscored by its acquisition of Andrew Agencies Ltd. in July 2023. Andrew Agencies, established in 1913, operates 22 locations across Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Alberta, offering a range of insurance services, including agriculture, commercial, homeowners, and auto insurance.
