Aspen Insurance Holdings – which in recent months named a new group chief financial officer and group chief operating officer – has made further changes to its management roster.
The announcement was made internally by Aspen executive chair and group chief executive Mark Cloutier, who wrote to staff before Christmas.
In his note, Cloutier revealed: “I have asked Christian Dunleavy to step into the newly created position of group chief underwriting officer. In this role, Christian will continue to lead our efforts to deliver against our strategy, leveraging our excellent underwriting and market-facing teams with the strong capabilities of our capital partners business.”
Dunleavy has been with Aspen since 2015. His previous roles include Aspen Re CUO and Aspen Bermuda CEO. Dunleavy’s credentials span time spent at the likes of AXIS Reinsurance and RenaissanceRe.
Meanwhile, other promotions and adjustments to reporting lines were also confirmed by Cloutier.
He stated: “Andrew Rippert will take on the role as chief underwriting officer for the reinsurance segment. Andrew joined us in June [2021] with over 20 years’ experience in shaping and building global mortgage insurance and reinsurance businesses and portfolios.
“His experience at Arch Capital saw him establish and lead a multi-billion-dollar mortgage credit business that was preeminent in the market. I am looking forward to working with Andrew in his new role, and he also will now join me on the Group ExCo (executive committee).”
Also now part of Aspen’s group executive committee is London-based Rob Houghton, whose appointment as group COO was made a month ago and became effective yesterday (January 03).
Other new changes include the widening of Beatrice Morley’s remit. In addition to her current roles as global product head of casualty reinsurance as well as Asia-Pacific head, Morley has now also been tasked to serve as head of international reinsurance – broadening her oversight to cover not just Singapore and Australia/New Zealand, but also Zürich.
Also taking on additional responsibilities is group chief capital management officer and treasurer Mark Pickering, who Cloutier said “has been invaluable in cultivating our improved relationships with regulators and rating agencies” and will become chief executive of Aspen Bermuda.
“I am excited to share this announcement with you,” Cloutier told Aspen employees, “and please join me in congratulating everyone on their new roles and responsibilities. Aspen remains well positioned to take advantage of the market conditions as we continue to refine and retool our support functions to match our underwriting and capital markets capabilities.”
Last October, Aspen welcomed Christopher Coleman as group CFO. The former Third Point Re chief financial officer succeeded Kevin Chidwick, who retired at the end of 2021.
