Mergers & Acquisitions

Acera Insurance Services has expanded into Atlantic Canada by partnering with Jacobi Brien Insurance in Nova Scotia.

With its first location in the region, the brokerage said its footprint is now officially “from coast to coast to coast.” Acera Insurance has over 60 locations nationwide, spanning from Victoria, BC, to Whitehorse, YT, and into the greater Halifax area.

Jacobi Brien Insurance, established in Lower Sackville, NS, in 2016, was co-founded by Colin Brien and Donald Jacobi. Together, they bring over five decades of expertise in personal and commercial insurance. The firm specializes in commercial insurance, focusing on sectors such as construction, hospitality, golf courses, and real estate.

“We proudly built our local business from the ground up, so we value that Acera Insurance has been growing organically without insurance carrier or foreign ownership,” said Brien. “As Acera Insurance’s first partner in Atlantic Canada, our team looks forward to contributing to its expanding reach across the country.”

The partnership was finalized on June 24. Jacobi Brien Insurance will transition to the Acera Insurance brand in the coming months.

Chief operating officer Bruce Rabik (pictured) noted: “As a wholly Canadian-owned brokerage, Acera Insurance is proud to support Canadians, employ Canadians, and continually grow to serve more communities across Canada.

“We are pleased to welcome Jacobi Brien Insurance to our team as we enhance our local knowledge and reach to ensure Canadians’ distinct needs and priorities are being met.”

In a previous interview with Insurance Business, Rabik commented on Acera’s mergers and acquisitions strategy: “We’re not necessarily going out there and participating in every auction and paying the highest price. What we’re really looking for is owners who want to sell or, more importantly, partner with us.”
