Blake McGarry (pictured) has joined brokerage firm Axis Insurance Managers as senior vice president of life, benefits & wealth, bringing a robust background in financial services spanning more than 15 years.
Beginning his career in a junior sales position, McGarry swiftly climbed the corporate ladder, becoming national vice president within just eight years. He has worked with the likes of Great-West Life (now Canada Life), RBC Insurance, and Prosper Financial Group.
McGarry’s experience spans group benefits, retirement planning, and wealth preservation. His focus on achieving outstanding client results has garnered him various awards, and his leadership has consistently driven teams to exceed performance goals, the company stated.
The SVP’s goal at Axis Insurance is to elevate group benefits and retirement offerings, transforming them into tools that drive both individual and organizational success.
“Throughout my career, I’ve focused on delivering innovative group benefits and retirement solutions that do more than just retain talent – they empower businesses to foster a culture of peak performance by supporting their teams’ physical, mental, and financial well-being,” McGarry noted.
“I also specialize in tailored estate planning, helping Canadians protect their wealth and legacy from taxes and market risk.”
The key arrival follows that of Shane Neil, senior vice president of corporate development for Eastern Canada.

With over 20 years of experience in insurance, Neil brings substantial expertise in underwriting, leadership, and strategic growth. His background covers areas like property & casualty, professional liability, fleet/IRCA, and garage insurance.
The SVP appointments come on the heels of Axis Insurance’s swoop for property & casualty brokerage Baker Insurance, which was set up in Calgary in 1976 before it was rebranded in 2006 to its current name following its sale to Ed Baker.
The acquired business specializes in both corporate and private asset protection and offers risk assessments, claims management, operational reviews, as well as surety bonds and inland marine insurance.
