Restaurants Canada will urge the federal government to act through its “On the Precipice—Help is Needed” report on employment insurance, which will be released on Thursday.
Authored by Ian Lee, PhD, an associate professor at Carleton University, the report examines the impacts of employment insurance (EI) premiums on small businesses.
“As restaurants and small business owners navigate an affordability crisis, this report will highlight the strain higher EI premiums are adding to the unprecedented cost pressures,” Restaurants Canada said.
“It will provide a call to action to the federal government to mitigate the rising cost of operating a small business in this challenging economic climate.”
The report’s unveiling will be held in Parliament Hill, Room 135B at 11am on June 13.
The media conference will feature speakers such as Lee, the report’s author, Restaurants Canada president and chief executive Kelly Higginson (pictured), and Diana Palmerin-Valesco, senior director of Future of Work at the Canadian Chamber of Commerce.
Stakeholders expected to attend include Anish Mehra, owner of the East India Company.
