The Canadian Life and Health Insurance Association (CLHIA) has issued a statement amid the COVID-19 pandemic issue, informing all customers and health plan sponsors that it stands with them in this difficult time.
“Canada’s life and health insurers empathize with and are supporting employers, governments and individual Canadians who are taking steps to protect themselves and contain and control the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus,” said the association in its release.
The group offered a reminder that its member companies provide products that can help those affected by the pandemic – such as trip cancellation insurance, emergency medical insurance, extended health coverage, and even short-term disability coverage.
“CLHIA and our member companies are coordinating our efforts with governments to ensure that Canadians have access to these products when they need them,” the association stated.
CLHIA has encouraged customers who believe they might be affected to contact their employer as soon as they can to discuss the support available to them. The association also urged employers to contact their insurer with any inquiries they may have.
