Sun Life Financial has been named as one of the world’s most sustainable corporations.
The company made the Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations in the World for 2018 – its ninth consecutive year of recognition.
Notably, Sun Life is one of only four Canadian companies across all sectors to have made the list. It is also the only Canadian insurance company to earn a spot on the 2018 Global 100.
“For more than 150 years, Sun Life has focused on building and maintaining a strong and sustainable business for our clients, employees, advisors and the communities we serve,” said Sun Life Financial executive vice-president, chief legal officer and public affairs Melissa Kennedy. “We are proud to be named one of the most sustainable companies in the world and see our relentless commitment to clients as a key component to furthering our sustainability agenda.”
In a release, the company said that its sustainability strategy is focused on four key areas: community wellness, organizational resilience, environmental responsibility, and governance and risk management.
Sun Life hopes to continue strengthening its sustainability practices this year by “establishing and reporting on shorter and longer-term environmental targets.”
“These targets deepen our commitment to reducing the impact our business activities have on the environment, and will enable us to hold ourselves accountable for continuously improving the way we operate and manage that impact,” Kennedy explained.
