Aviva Canada has formed a partnership with a US-based provider of virtual claims technology, bringing the latter’s systems over to Canada to help Aviva’s customers with their claims.

The insurer is collaborating with Chicago-based Snapsheet to create a convenient app-based virtual claims system. A release said that this partnership “marks the first step in bringing virtual claims to the Canadian market.”

Through the partnership, Aviva’s customers can take photos of the damage they wish to claim on, and submit the pictures through Aviva’s app – AvivaExpress, powered by Snapsheet. From there, Snapsheet’s team of appraisers inspect the vehicle damage based on the photos using specialized software and engagement tools to come up with an estimate for repair costs. Aviva then hands out the insurance payout Snapsheet has calculated. Throughout the entire process, Snapsheet’s customer service team will guide users.

Snapsheet’s technology allows Aviva customers to settle claims 20-40% faster than with traditional channels, a release claimed.

“We’re thrilled to expand our services to the Canadian market with a partner who works to provide cutting-edge solutions to its customers,” commented Snapsheet CEO and founder Brad Weisberg.

Weisberg also said that Aviva was a natural choice for Snapsheet’s first carrier partner in Canada, due to the insurer sharing Snapsheet’s core goal of making the claims process faster.

“With Snapsheet’s great track record in the US, we’re proud to work with them and offer a transformative experience to our Canadian customers,” added Aviva Canada interim chief claims officer Lynn Anderson. “The results from our pilot program showed an immense improvement to our customers’ claims journey. The time it takes for an estimate to be completed is significantly reduced, helping defy uncertainty for our customers.”

Early consumer interest in the app-based service appears to be high, based on previous testing; during the pilot of the virtual claims app, 93% of Aviva customers chose to opt in and use the virtual claims platform.
